Love Letters

The Power of Love Letters

Love letters have been used for centuries as a means of expressing affection, gratitude, and deep emotions. They are a way to communicate from the depths of one's heart, allowing thoughts and feelings to flow freely onto the page. When we apply this concept to our relationship with Jesus, the result can be a profound spiritual experience.

I was first introduced to writing love letters as a spiritual practice by my dear friend and Unconditional Love Coach, Jamie Wollberg. Especially when I was facing my little Lola crossing the rainbow bridge, he had me write a letter to her to express on paper what I couldn't verbalize. I have found writing these love letters to myself- my physical body, emotional body, mental body, and loved ones- has been very cathartic. Getting the words down on paper has helped me to compose my thoughts while expressing myself in new ways.

Doing this work with Jamie helped me to develop a journal practice as a spiritual discipline. One of my favorite ways to get over writer's block and the fear of a blank page is to write out my prayers to God in the form of a love letter. My prayer for you is that this same discipline will help you to connect with God in profound ways as well.

Writing love letters to the Lord is not about following a strict format or adhering to a set of rules. It's a personal and intimate expression of your thoughts, feelings, and desires. It's a conversation with the lover of our soul, Jesus, a way to connect with the power of the indwelling Spirit that transcends our understanding.

Finding the Right Time and Place

Creating a sacred space for your letter-writing practice is essential. Choose a quiet and peaceful environment where you can be alone with your thoughts and God. Light a candle, burn some incense, or play soft music to set the mood. The goal is to create an atmosphere that encourages mindfulness and reflection.

Finding the right time to write your love letters is also crucial. Some people prefer to do it in the morning, while others find solace in the quiet of the night. Choose a time that works best for you and allows you to fully immerse yourself in the experience.

The Art of Pouring Your Heart Out

When you sit down to write your love letter to God, there are no rigid guidelines to follow. You are free to express yourself in your own way. Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Begin with Gratitude: Start by expressing your gratitude for the blessings in your life. Acknowledge the beauty of the world around you and the love you have received.

  2. Share Your Heart: Share your thoughts, feelings, and concerns openly. Pour out your heart without judgment or reservation. This is your sacred space to be completely honest.

  3. Ask for Guidance: Seek guidance, wisdom, and understanding. Ask for strength to overcome challenges and for clarity in moments of confusion.

  4. Express Love: Express your love for God. Let your words convey the depth of your devotion and admiration. Tell God how much you cherish your relationship.

  5. Offer Forgiveness: If there are burdens or grievances weighing on your heart, use this opportunity to offer forgiveness and seek healing.

  6. Set Intentions: Set intentions for the future. Share your hopes and dreams, and ask for God's guidance and provision to achieve them.

The Transformational Journey

As you continue this practice over time, you may notice a transformation within yourself. Writing love letters to God can bring a sense of inner peace, clarity, and connection. I find it helps me release pent-up emotions, find solace in difficult times, and experience a profound sense of being heard and loved.

Remember that there is no right or wrong way to write these letters. They are a reflection of your unique relationship with Jesus. Embrace the process and let it be a source of comfort and growth on your spiritual journey.

In Him,
