Trust Without Borders

“God’s Message: “Cursed is the strong one who depends on mere humans, Who thinks he can make it on muscle alone and sets God aside as dead weight. He’s like a tumbleweed on the prairie, out of touch with the good earth. He lives rootless and aimless in a land where nothing grows.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭MSG‬‬

¡Saludos desde el desierto!

I knew this would be a wild ride, and it certainly is. This past week found me scootering around town on cobblestone roads (with no stop signs or streetlights), zooming at max speed next to semi trucks, and slowly navigating dangerously rocky country roads.

As someone often quoted as saying, "Bravery isn't the absence of fear; it's choices we make in the face of our fears," I decided that I was probably being a little too brave and needed to exercise some caution. So, I returned the scooter (limiting my independence) and will rely on taxis and my Airbnb hosts' generous hospitality for rides to/from town.

In the same way that I was asking God to surround me with God’s angel armies while I was on that scooter, I have been asking for Their protection on my travels and trusting that God has gone before me and is making a way through this wilderness season of my life. This is where the literal and figurative rubber meets the bumpy road.

My sister once sent me this blog post about one of my favorite worship songs. The author challenged me to consider whether my life reflected my trust in God or demonstrated my desire for control. As the song Oceans by Hillsong United says, I am actively learning how to trust Them without borders.

"Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters, wherever You would call me."

Economic borders.

Social borders.

Geographic borders.

Religious borders.

Racial borders.

I am learning to trust fully in a life lived outside the borders of my comfort zone, and in the process, I am being led into deep waters and invited to dance with Jesus upon the waves.

"Take me deeper than my feet would ever wander, that my faith would be made stronger, in the presence of my Savior."

Just over three months into my life as a digital nomad, I am going deeper into trusting dependence on YHWH, feeling my faith grow exponentially, and enjoying the beautiful and bumpy ride along the way (just not from a scooter).

With love,

Jennifer
