Finding My Way in Mexico 🇲🇽

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

📍San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

¡Saludos desde el desierto!

I spent all day yesterday traveling from Denver, Colorado, USA to San Miguel de Allende, GTO, Mexico. What a whirlwind the last 24 hours has been. The air travel here and immigration was painless and easy, thank God.

I did, however, run into an issue once I arrived. If you ever find yourself needing to rent a car in Mexico, be sure to read this first (I wish I had). So, while I have now found myself living outside of town without a car due to hidden charges that I can't afford, I am happy to be here.

A diversity of lush vegetation surrounds the commune I am living in. Arleta, the owner, has three sweet pups and a handful of chickens roaming the property (the source of my fresh eggs this morning). The gardener spends the mornings listening to ranchera music and tending to the enormous cacti and succulents. One of the things that struck me the most is how BIG everything grows in this desert landscape.

The casita is dreamy and has its quirks. It's an off-grid permaculture community that utilizes solar power, well water, and dry toilets. The decor is beautifully minimal and very Mexican. It was such a treat to sleep in my king-sized bed surrounded by layers of mosquito netting.

Glad I arrived safely and am looking forward to all that this month has in store for me here in the desert wilderness of central Mexico. Having said that, I am VERY outside of my comfort zone. Haggling with the rental car agent and negotiating a taxi ride home in my elementary Spanish was a test of my Duo Lingo skills. Now that I am without a car, I will be utilizing the bus system and practicing my Español daily.

On another note, thank you all for your prayers for my mother. Her surgery went very well last week, and I am so glad that Scott can be with her and my dad while she recovers over the next eight weeks. Please pray for clarity as we await the diagnosis of the cancer and decide on the next steps.

Until then, I'm hoping the wifi will hold out so that I can see your smiling faces at the Infinitum Prayer Day on Wednesday at 8am MT/10am ET.

All for His glory,

Jennifer
