Scheduling Rest

"Have regular hours for work and play; make each day both useful and pleasant, and prove that you understand the worth of time by employing it well."

Greetings from the wilderness!

As a busy entrepreneur, I have to schedule everything on my calendarβ€”If it’s not on my calendar, it won’t get done. And that includes rest!

My creation from the latest Artful Communion event.

I build out a schedule of rest on my calendar every week; my Type A personality even has this rest calendar color-coded. Daily, I have scheduled time when I wake up to do my creative Morning Pages practice, an afternoon date with God (usually a prayer walk outdoors or painting), and in the evenings, time for Physio Divina to wind down before reading in bed.

I have a full day of Sabbath carved out weekly β€”not always on Sundays, but always one day per week. Now, just because I have these scheduled times for rest doesn’t mean life doesn’t find ways to schedule over them, but saving these places on my calendar gives me the greatest chance of resting regularly.

I learned the hard way that not scheduling rest into my days, especially a weekly Sabbath practice, means my workload (and idol of self-reliance) will take over and lead me right back into burnout. I’ve been there too many times, and out of necessity and the Spirit’s persistence, Jesus and I have been cultivating a lifestyle that prioritizes rest over the last 5 years.

That’s really what Loto Wellness Collective isβ€”A wholistic wellness lifestyle that recognizes the gift of rest in our busy lives, mind-body-soul. The Lord told me to build this platform as an invitation into my personal practice of following Jesus, to learn from each other and find fellowship with those who have accepted Jesus’ invitation to live a surrendered life under His light yoke:

β€œβ€œCome to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. [Jer 6:16] For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.””—‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬-‭30‬ ‭AMP‬‬

There is no one right way for rest to take shape. All of the immersive experiences and storytelling content Loto curates for you are invitations to learn from others and be inspired to create your own practices of rest, mind-body-spirit.

And I’m excited to announce the latest Loto Wellness Collective event series, Selah: Sabbath Rest. As you already know, I believe having a strong weekly Sabbath practice is not only a biblical gift of rest against weariness, but an opportunity refill our energetic cups to overflowingβ€”It’s a day set apart by God, 24 hours, to restfully pursue our deepest joys in the Presence of God.

What would you do for twenty-four hours if the only criteria were to pursue your deepest joy?

More than a few worship songs and a sermon at church, the Sabbath was created as a holy pause from the busyness of day-to-day life. It is a divine rhythm of rest and refilling, a sacred pause where we intimately meet God. It’s an opportunity for our deepest joy to connect with our Great Love.

Yet, in a world that glorifies hustle and noise, true rest and joy can feel elusive. The endless demands of life, the constant mental chatter, the struggle to simply beβ€”all of it can make it hard to hear that still small voice whispering love to us.

That’s why Selah: Sabbath Rest was created. This is your invitation to stop and listenβ€”to step away from the noise and step into deeply joyful communion with God.

Through intentional restful practices and embodied prayer (that we call Physio Divina), together we’ll cultivate a rhythm of rest that enriches your spiritual life and quiets the restless mind, deepening your connection to your body and your ability to receive from the Holy Spirit.

I hope you will join me.

With Love,

Jennifer
